Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of Yoga? The word “yoga” means union. The purpose of the practice of yoga is to quiet the mind so that we can connect to our deeper selves and experience union with the world around us.
• Do I have to be flexible? Not at all. You only need to be open-minded. Flexiblity will come with time.
• Do I have to be in shape? Yoga is for everyone. All sizes and shapes are
welcome. Please let us know if you have a health condition that may prevent you from doing certain movements, so that we can provide modifications.
• What if I have an injury? There’s a pose for that! As with health conditions, please let us know about any injuries you are working with and we’ll make it work.
• What should I wear? Anything that is clean and comfortable and does not restrict movement. (think stretchy or tie waistbands – like the pants you put on after Thanksgiving dinner)
• How much does it cost? You tell us what you can afford. We believe that yoga should be available to persons of all incomes. See our sliding scale fee schedule to determine your price per class.
• Do I need to have my own mat? Most people prefer to use their own mat but we do have mats at the studio available for use. We also have mats available in the store to purchase. If you do use one of our mats, please use the provided cloths and mat wash to clean your mat after class.
• Which class is right for me? That depends on your goals, expectations, and experience. Please email us or call the studio if you’re unsure which class to go to. We’re happy to talk with you and help you figure it out.
• Why do I have to remove my shoes immediately upon entering the studio space? The practical answer is that removing shoes helps to keep the studio floor clean. Since yoga is practiced in bare feet, it is appropriate to keep the floor clean for the comfort of everyone. On a deeper level, the act of mindfully removing one’s shoes symbolizes leaving the outside world, along with the cares, concerns and anxieties that go along with it, outside of the studio space so that it can serve as a clean, comfortable sanctuary for all who use it.
• What if I can’t do all the postures? Join the club! Nobody can do all of the postures. We all just do our best.
